Whether it is lettuce grown in aquaponics, or the maize of Africa, the secret is found in the root. Mycorrhizal fungi is the farmers friend. This lettuce is being grown in water, hydroponics, with only mycorrhizae.
The right mycorrhzal species will increase roots of plants several hundred to several thousand times. Those roots go to the plant, build a marriage with their roots, then seek out minerals and nutrients, not just from the soil, but by promoting growth in the plant to bring nitrogen and carbon to the plant from the air.
